Trump Warns Iran Deal Is Not Final
US President Donald Trump said the proposed agreement with Iran was not final and warned that Washington could resume military action if Tehran failed to meet expectations under the memorandum of understanding.
Trump Says Iran Deal Is Not Final
Trump said the US-Iran understanding remained a memorandum of understanding and not a permanent settlement. Speaking during the G7 Summit in France, he warned that if he did not like how the deal progressed, the US could “go back to shooting.”
The remarks came as world leaders reviewed the proposed framework aimed at extending a ceasefire and opening the way for further negotiations. The agreement is expected to serve as a temporary arrangement while both sides work toward a broader settlement.
US Iran Memorandum Faces Tough Scrutiny
The proposed memorandum is expected to extend the ceasefire for 60 days and create space for negotiations on Iran’s nuclear programme, regional activities and sanctions relief. Trump said the deal would not bring immediate sanctions relief for Tehran.
The warning signalled that Washington intends to keep military pressure available while testing Iran’s compliance. The US has said any final agreement must ensure that Iran does not obtain a nuclear weapon and must address wider regional security concerns.
G7 Leaders Discuss Middle East Stability
G7 leaders welcomed diplomatic efforts to reduce tensions but also called for stronger guarantees on regional security. The discussions also focused on Lebanon, Hezbollah, maritime safety and the reopening of critical shipping routes, including the Strait of Hormuz.
Trump’s remarks underline the fragile nature of the proposed deal. While markets responded positively to the possibility of de-escalation, the warning of renewed military action showed that the US-Iran framework remains highly uncertain.
