Vijay Must Prove Majority First says Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar
Tamil Nadu Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar has reportedly made it clear that TVK chief Vijay can take oath as Chief Minister only after proving that he has the required majority to form a stable government.
Tamil Nadu Governor Seeks Majority Proof
According to sources cited by ANI, the Governor wants a stable government in Tamil Nadu and has asked Vijay to prove the required numbers before the oath-taking process can move ahead.
The development comes after TVK emerged as the single largest party in the Assembly election but fell short of the simple majority mark.
Vijay Oath Depends On Numbers
Vijay’s party needs to show support from enough MLAs to cross the majority threshold in the 234-member Assembly. Congress has extended support to TVK, but the alliance still needs additional backing to comfortably prove majority.
The Governor’s position means Vijay cannot be sworn in merely on the basis of being the leader of the single largest party. He must first demonstrate that he can command the confidence of the House.
Tamil Nadu Government Formation Uncertainty
Tamil Nadu remains in a politically sensitive phase as parties continue discussions over post-poll support. The AIADMK has already ruled out backing TVK, while the DMK has said it will allow TVK to attempt government formation without immediate obstruction.
The next step will depend on whether TVK can secure written support from smaller parties or independents. Until then, Vijay’s oath-taking remains on hold.
