Stalin Says DMK Will Let TVK Form Government
DMK chief M K Stalin has said his party will wait and allow Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam to attempt government formation in Tamil Nadu, amid continuing uncertainty over the numbers in the hung Assembly according to a report in ‘The Times of India’.
DMK To Watch TVK Government Formation
Stalin reportedly said the DMK would “watch without disturbing for six months” as TVK tries to form and run the next Tamil Nadu government. His remarks come at a time when speculation has been growing over possible post-poll combinations involving the DMK, AIADMK and smaller parties.
The statement suggests that the DMK may not immediately block Vijay’s attempt to form the government, despite its anger over Congress support to TVK.
Vijay Still Short Of Majority
TVK emerged as the single largest party in the Tamil Nadu Assembly election, winning 108 seats in its electoral debut. However, the party remains short of the 118-seat majority mark in the 234-member House.
Congress, which won five seats, has extended support to TVK, but the alliance is still five seats short of a simple majority. Governor Rajendra Arlekar has reportedly asked Vijay to provide proof of majority before proceeding with government formation.
Smaller Parties Hold Key In Tamil Nadu
TVK is reportedly in talks with the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi, the CPI and the CPI(M), which won two seats each. These parties had contested as part of the DMK-led alliance, and their final position remains unclear.
The DMK won 59 seats, while the NDA, led mainly by the AIADMK and BJP, secured 53 seats. With no clear majority in place, the next few days could determine whether Vijay can form a stable government or Tamil Nadu moves deeper into political uncertainty.
