Congress Says TVK Alliance Covers Future Polls

The Congress has confirmed that its support to Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam for government formation in Tamil Nadu is not limited to the current Assembly arithmetic but will also extend to future elections.

Congress Supports TVK Government Formation

AICC Tamil Nadu in-charge Girish Chodankar said the Congress has agreed to support TVK in forming the next government in Tamil Nadu. The move comes after Vijay’s party emerged as the single largest party but fell short of the majority mark in the Assembly.

Congress support is expected to play a crucial role in helping TVK stake claim to power. The decision also signals a major shift in Tamil Nadu politics, where the Congress had previously contested alongside the DMK.

TVK Congress Alliance For Future Elections

The Congress statement clarified that the alliance with TVK is based on mutual respect, appropriate share and shared responsibility. It added that the understanding is not only for forming the current government but also for future local body, Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha elections.

This makes the arrangement more than a short-term post-poll support deal. It suggests that Congress and TVK are preparing for a broader political partnership in Tamil Nadu.

Tamil Nadu Politics Faces Realignment

The Congress move is likely to deepen tensions with the DMK, which has already criticised the party over its support to TVK. DMK leaders have accused Congress of betrayal after the Assembly election results.

With TVK now moving closer to government formation and Congress backing it for future polls, Tamil Nadu’s political landscape could see a major realignment. The development may also test the unity of the INDIA bloc at the national level.
