TVK Claims Support Of 121 MLAs – Reports

Actor-politician Joseph Vijay has claimed the support of 121 MLAs in Tamil Nadu, giving his party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam, a possible majority in the 234-member Assembly. The claim has been made in TVK’s draft letter to the Governor, as government formation talks continue after the fractured election verdict.

Vijay Claims Majority Support In Tamil Nadu

TVK has claimed that Vijay now has the backing of 121 MLAs, three more than the 118-seat majority mark required to form the government. If accepted, the claim could strengthen TVK’s case to be invited to form the next government in Tamil Nadu.

TVK Lists Congress And Left As Supporters

In the draft letter, TVK has listed Congress, VCK, CPI, CPI(M), AMMK and IUML among the parties supporting Vijay. These parties could provide the additional numbers needed after TVK emerged as the single largest party but fell short of a clear majority on its own.

Governor To Assess TVK Claim

The Governor is expected to examine the support letters and decide the next constitutional step. In a hung Assembly, the Governor may invite the leader who appears most likely to command majority support and ask them to prove it on the floor of the House.

Tamil Nadu Government Formation Moves Ahead

The latest claim has brought Tamil Nadu closer to government formation after days of political uncertainty. If Vijay is invited and proves his majority, TVK could form its first government in the state after a dramatic electoral debut.
