Vijay’s Oath Delayed Amid Numbers Row As IUML Withdraws

Tamil Nadu’s government formation deadlock continued on Friday after actor-politician Vijay reportedly failed to convince the Governor that he had the required majority support. The development has delayed the expected oath-taking ceremony again, even as TVK continues efforts to gather enough MLAs.

Vijay Falls Short Of Majority Mark

Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam needs the support of at least 118 MLAs in the 234-member Assembly to form the government. According to reports citing sources, Vijay is still short of two MLAs after IUML reportedly withdrew support, weakening TVK’s claim.

Third Governor Meeting Ends Without Oath

Vijay met Tamil Nadu Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar for the third time in three days and again staked claim to form the government. However, the oath-taking ceremony has been postponed as the Governor is reportedly not satisfied that TVK has secured a clear majority.

TVK Continues Support Talks

TVK has been in talks with Congress, VCK, CPI, CPI(M), AMMK and other smaller parties to cross the majority mark. The latest setback means Vijay’s party will need to submit stronger proof of support before the Governor can invite him to form the government.

Tamil Nadu Political Deadlock Deepens

The delay has extended uncertainty in Tamil Nadu after the Assembly election produced a fractured mandate. With TVK emerging as the single largest party but falling short of a majority, the final test may depend on verified support letters and a possible floor test in the Assembly.
