Trump Says India-US Trade Deal Likely Soon

US President Donald Trump has said India and the United States are likely to reach a trade agreement soon, even as Washington continues to press New Delhi over tariffs and market access.

Trump Calls PM Modi A Good Friend

Trump described Prime Minister Narendra Modi as a “good friend” and said both leaders share a strong working relationship. Speaking at the White House, he said he expects the two countries to eventually reach a trade deal because of his personal equation with the Indian Prime Minister.

His remarks came after a US delegation visited India earlier this week for talks on an interim bilateral trade agreement.

India-US Trade Deal Talks Continue

India and the United States have been negotiating a trade arrangement aimed at reducing tariff friction and expanding economic cooperation. The Indian side has said the latest round of talks was held in a cooperative and pragmatic manner.

The proposed deal is expected to focus on tariff reductions, market access and broader bilateral trade ties. However, both sides are still working through differences on duties, import rules and sector-specific concerns.

Trump Raises Tariff Concerns Against India

Trump again accused India of imposing high tariffs on American goods and said his administration was reversing what he described as years of unfair treatment.

He referred to Harley-Davidson motorcycles as an example, claiming high Indian tariffs had earlier made it difficult for the company to sell in India. The comments come days after the US proposed additional duties on goods from India and several other countries over alleged forced labour-related import concerns.
