China Raises Alert as Two Typhoons Approach
China has upgraded its typhoon alert to orange, the second-highest level in its four-tier warning system, as Typhoons Narra and Saudel approach different parts of the country. Authorities are preparing for heavy rain, strong winds and potential flooding across several southern and eastern provinces.
China Raises Typhoon Alert to Orange
Typhoon Narra, the 19th typhoon of the year, was located over the Beibu Gulf on Tuesday morning, around 65 km west-northwest of Dongfang City in Hainan Province.
Forecasters expect Narra to move northeastward at 5–10 km per hour, passing close to Hainan’s northwestern coast before making landfall between southeastern Guangxi and the western Leizhou Peninsula in Guangdong.
The storm is expected to weaken rapidly after moving inland.
Typhoon Saudel Heads Toward China’s East Coast
Typhoon Saudel, the 18th typhoon of 2026, was located about 920 km east of Taipei on Tuesday morning.
The storm is forecast to enter the East China Sea on Wednesday before potentially making landfall between central Zhejiang and central Fujian from late Thursday night into Friday morning.
Authorities are closely monitoring its track as coastal areas prepare for worsening weather conditions.
Heavy Rain and Flooding Threaten Several Provinces
From Tuesday afternoon through Wednesday afternoon, parts of Fujian, Jiangxi, Guangdong and Hainan are expected to receive torrential rain, with exceptionally heavy rainfall possible in some locations.
China is already dealing with the effects of another storm. Typhoon Gaenari, the 20th typhoon of the year, made landfall near Quanzhou in Fujian on Monday.
Water authorities activated a Level-IV emergency flood response in Fujian and deployed a team to assist local authorities as rainfall raised concerns about rising river levels and flooding.
