TASMAC Shuts 150 Outlets In Three Days
Tamil Nadu’s state-run liquor retailer TASMAC has shut 150 outlets in three days as part of the government’s move to close shops located near schools, colleges, places of worship and bus stands. The action is part of a wider plan to close 717 identified outlets across the State.
TASMAC Outlet Closure In Tamil Nadu
The closure drive has been launched after the government identified liquor shops functioning within restricted zones. Officials have begun shutting outlets in phases, with 150 shops closed in the first three days of the exercise.
The move follows concerns raised by residents, parents and local groups over the location of liquor shops near public-use spaces. The government has directed that the identified outlets be closed within the announced timeline.
Salesmen Face Customer Pressure
TASMAC salesmen at several affected outlets have reportedly faced difficult situations from regular customers after shops were shut or shifted. Some customers questioned staff about the sudden closure, while others demanded clarity on where they could purchase liquor.
Employees said they were only implementing official instructions and had limited information to provide beyond the closure order. The situation has also raised concerns over crowd management and staff safety at outlets still operating in nearby areas.
717 TASMAC Shops Identified For Closure
The State has identified 717 TASMAC shops for closure, including outlets near educational institutions, places of worship and bus stands. TASMAC operates thousands of retail liquor shops across Tamil Nadu and remains a major source of government revenue.
The closure decision is being watched closely as it may affect local sales patterns, employee deployment and public order around remaining outlets. Officials are expected to continue monitoring the implementation process and handle operational challenges as more shops are shut.
