Russia Thanks Kim For Kursk Support
Russian State Duma Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin has thanked North Korean leader Kim Jong Un for Pyongyang’s military support in Russia’s Kursk region, underlining the deepening defence partnership between Moscow and Pyongyang.
Russia Thanks North Korea Over Kursk
Volodin met Kim in Pyongyang during a Russian delegation’s visit to attend the opening of a memorial complex for North Korean soldiers killed while supporting Russia’s war effort.
He expressed gratitude to Kim and the North Korean people for what Moscow described as their “fraternal support” in the “liberation of Kursk.” The reference was to Russia’s campaign to push Ukrainian forces out of the western Kursk region after Kyiv’s cross-border operation.
North Korean Troops Backed Russia
North Korea has sent troops, missiles and ammunition to support Russia in the Ukraine war. Its soldiers were deployed in the Kursk region as Moscow tried to repel Ukrainian forces and restore control over the area.
The memorial event in Pyongyang highlighted North Korea’s growing public acknowledgement of its military role in Russia’s war. It also marked another step in the formalisation of defence ties between the two countries.
Moscow-Pyongyang Military Ties Deepen
Russia and North Korea have moved closer since signing a strategic partnership agreement that includes mutual defence provisions. Moscow has increasingly relied on Pyongyang for battlefield support, while North Korea is believed to have gained military, technological and economic backing in return.
The latest remarks from Volodin show that the Russia-North Korea partnership is no longer being kept in the shadows. Instead, both sides are openly presenting it as a long-term strategic alliance against Western pressure.
