A Hindu temple caretaker-cum-priest was found dead in southeastern Bangladesh three days after he went missing, prompting a minority rights group to demand strong action and a proper investigation.
Hindu Temple Caretaker Found Dead In Cox’s Bazar
The victim was identified as 40-year-old Nayan Sadhu, a resident of Dohazari in Chattogram district. He worked as a caretaker-cum-priest at a Shivakali temple in Khurushkul union under Cox’s Bazar Sadar Upazila.
According to police and local residents, two unidentified men allegedly took him from his home late on April 19. His body was found three days later hanging from a tree in a hilly area on the outskirts of the village.
Bangladesh Police Begin Investigation
Police recovered the body after it had started decomposing and sent it for autopsy to determine the exact cause of death. Officials said they were still investigating whether the case was murder or suicide.
The incident has created concern among local residents and members of the Hindu community, especially because the victim was associated with a religious place.
Minority Group Demands Strong Action
The Bangladesh Hindu Buddhist Christian Unity Council condemned the death and demanded stern action against those responsible. The group said the authorities must conduct a transparent investigation and ensure justice.
The case comes amid continuing concerns over the safety of religious minorities in Bangladesh. Community groups have repeatedly called for stronger protection, faster investigation of attacks and accountability in cases involving violence against minority citizens.
