PM Modi Woos Matua Voters In Bengal

Prime Minister Narendra Modi appealed to voters in West Bengal’s Matua belt, promising freedom from what he called Trinamool Congress misrule if the BJP is voted to power in the state.

PM Modi Campaigns In Matua Belt

Addressing a rally in Thakurnagar, a politically important Matua-dominated region in North 24 Parganas, Modi invoked Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose’s famous slogan and said, “Give me votes, I’ll give you freedom.”

He used the remark to attack the Mamata Banerjee-led TMC government, accusing it of corruption, intimidation and creating what he described as “maha jungle raj” in Bengal.

CAA Promise For Matua Community

Modi also reached out to Matua and Namasudra voters by renewing the BJP’s promise on citizenship under the Citizenship Amendment Act. The Matua community, many of whom trace their roots to Bangladesh, has been a key political constituency in Bengal.

The Prime Minister said the BJP would ensure dignity and citizenship rights for refugee communities if it gets public support in the ongoing Assembly election.

BJP Targets TMC In West Bengal Polls

The speech came ahead of the next phase of polling in West Bengal, where the BJP is trying to expand its support base in areas that have a strong Matua presence.

Modi accused the TMC of betraying its “Maa, Maati, Manush” slogan and said Bengal needed political change. The TMC has rejected the BJP’s allegations and has repeatedly accused the Centre of using citizenship and migration issues for electoral gains.
