Modi Visit To Indonesia May Push BrahMos Deal

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Indonesia is expected to give fresh momentum to India-Indonesia defence cooperation, with the proposed BrahMos missile deal emerging as a key focus of the bilateral talks.

India Indonesia Defence Cooperation

India’s envoy to Indonesia, Sandeep Chakravorty, said there could be “good news” on the BrahMos missile deal during or after PM Modi’s visit. The proposed agreement has been under discussion for some time and is being closely watched as India expands its defence exports in Southeast Asia.

The BrahMos supersonic cruise missile, jointly developed by India and Russia, is seen as a major defence platform for countries seeking stronger maritime and coastal security capabilities.

BrahMos Missile Deal In Focus

Indonesia has shown interest in acquiring the BrahMos system as part of its wider defence modernisation plans. The deal, if concluded, would mark another major export success for India after the Philippines became the first foreign buyer of the missile system.

The talks are expected to focus on the structure of the procurement, delivery timelines, training support and possible phased acquisition. Defence cooperation between India and Indonesia has grown in recent years, supported by shared concerns over maritime security in the Indo-Pacific.

Modi Indonesia Visit Boosts Strategic Ties

PM Modi’s visit is also expected to cover trade, connectivity, digital cooperation, food security and maritime partnership. Indonesia is one of India’s key partners in ASEAN and a strategically important country located close to vital sea lanes.

Officials believe progress on BrahMos and other defence initiatives could deepen trust between the two countries and strengthen India’s position as a defence exporter. The visit is likely to reinforce New Delhi’s broader Act East policy and its growing engagement with Southeast Asian nations.nesia visit, India defence exports, Indo Pacific security
