Russia Hits Kyiv With Oreshnik Missile
Russia launched a large overnight missile and drone attack on Ukraine, with Kyiv and nearby areas reporting deaths, injuries and damage to civilian infrastructure. Ukrainian officials said the assault included the Oreshnik hypersonic ballistic missile, raising fresh concern over escalation in the war.
Russia Oreshnik Missile Strike Targets Ukraine
Ukraine said Russia fired around 90 missiles and 600 drones during the attack, making it one of the largest aerial assaults in recent months. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said an Oreshnik missile hit Bila Tserkva, south of Kyiv.
The Oreshnik is a powerful intermediate-range ballistic missile that can carry conventional or nuclear warheads. Russia has previously presented the weapon as difficult to intercept, though Ukraine and its allies have continued to strengthen air defence systems.
Kyiv Attack Leaves Casualties And Damage
Authorities reported at least four deaths and dozens of injuries across affected areas. Kyiv saw damage to residential buildings, schools, a market, a water facility and other infrastructure.
Emergency teams worked through the night to control fires and assist residents. Ukrainian officials described the attack as another attempt to terrorise civilians and weaken morale.
Russia-Ukraine War Talks Remain Stalled
The attack came as diplomatic efforts to end the war remain stuck. Western leaders condemned the strike and accused Moscow of escalating the conflict while peace talks show little progress.
Russia said the attack targeted military-related infrastructure and was carried out in response to Ukrainian strikes on Russian-controlled areas. Ukraine has rejected claims that it deliberately targets civilians.
