Manipur Clashes Kill Three In Ukhrul

Three people were killed and at least five others were injured in fresh clashes between rival Naga and Kuki armed groups in Manipur’s Ukhrul district on Friday morning, adding to the continuing ethnic tensions in the state.

Naga-Kuki Clashes In Ukhrul

The violence took place in two separate gunfights in Ukhrul district. Those killed included one Tangkhul Naga and two Kuki-Zo persons. The deceased Tangkhul Naga has been identified as 29-year-old Horshokmi Jamang.

According to Tangkhul Naga groups, Jamang was part of a village guard patrol near Sinakeithei village when he was killed in an ambush. They also said four other volunteers were seriously injured in the incident.

Kuki-Zo Volunteers Killed Near Mullam

The two Kuki-Zo men killed in the clashes were identified as Paominlun Haolai, 19, and Letlal Sitlhou, 43. Their bodies were found by security forces near Mullam village.

Kuki groups claimed the two were village volunteers who died while defending Mullam from an attack. They also alleged that houses were burnt, villagers were injured and several people, including women and children, were displaced. These claims were not independently confirmed.

NSCN Faction Makes Separate Claim

Separately, NSCN (Aleng Group) claimed it had killed five cadres of the Kuki National Army-Burma in Kamjong district. However, there was no official confirmation of the claim.

The KNA-B, which operates mainly from areas of northwestern Myanmar bordering Manipur, denied links to a circulating video showing blindfolded youths. It called the allegations false and blamed miscreants for spreading misinformation.

The latest violence comes as Manipur continues to face fragile security conditions after months of ethnic unrest.
