Telangana RTC Strike Called Off
The Telangana Road Transport Corporation workers’ strike was called off on Friday night after extended talks between the Joint Action Committee and the state government. Bus services are set to resume across Telangana from Saturday morning.
Telangana RTC Strike Ends After Talks
The TGSRTC Joint Action Committee withdrew its indefinite strike after a marathon meeting with a group of ministers at the Secretariat. The strike had begun on April 22 over 32 demands and entered its third day before both sides reached an agreement close to midnight.
The government agreed to resolve 31 of the 32 demands raised by the employees. The only pending issue is the full implementation of Pay Revision Commission scales, for which the state sought more time, citing the financial burden on the corporation and the exchequer.
TGSRTC Workers’ Demands Accepted
The employees’ demands included the merger of TGSRTC with the state government, implementation of the 2021 and 2025 PRC recommendations, and restoration of employee unions.
Talks also covered the reinstatement of recognised unions that were abolished during the previous BRS government in 2019, along with elections for recognised unions. Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka led the ministerial panel during the negotiations.
Telangana Bus Services Resume Saturday
With most demands accepted and an assurance given on the remaining issue, the JAC decided to withdraw the strike. The decision is expected to restore normal public transport services across Telangana from Saturday.
The government also announced support for the family of TGSRTC driver Kola Shankar Goud, who died during the agitation. His family will receive financial assistance, a job for an eligible family member in the RTC and an Indiramma house.
