Karnataka SIR Begins Amid Voter List Warning
Karnataka Chief Minister DK Shivakumar has urged citizens to ensure their names are included in the electoral rolls as the Special Intensive Revision process begins across the state. He warned that losing voting rights could also create difficulties in accessing government welfare benefits.
Karnataka SIR Voter List Revision
The Election Commission has started a house-to-house enumeration exercise in Karnataka as part of the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls. The process began on June 30 and will continue till July 29.
Booth Level Officers will visit households to distribute enumeration forms to voters whose names appeared on the electoral roll as of June 16, 2026. Officials said voters must fill out, sign and return the forms during the exercise.
DK Shivakumar Warning On Government Benefits
Shivakumar asked citizens to take the voter list verification process seriously, saying the right to vote is linked to access to public services and benefits. He referred to steps in other states where welfare records are being checked against electoral roll data.
The Karnataka government has also announced permanent residential certificates to help citizens complete the SIR process. These certificates can be obtained online through the Seva Sindhu portal or offline through citizen service centres.
Karnataka Electoral Roll Verification Process
Karnataka Chief Electoral Officer Anbukumar said the exercise will cover more than 5.5 crore electors across the state. Over 59,000 Booth Level Officers have been deployed, along with supervisors and electoral registration officials.
Officials clarified that no documents will be collected during the enumeration phase. The draft electoral roll will be published on August 5, claims and objections can be filed till September 4, and the final voter list will be released on October 7.
