Nepal Praises Modi, India for Flood Assistance
Nepal has praised India’s response to the devastating flash floods that have killed hundreds of people across the Himalayan nation, with Finance Minister Swarnim Wagle describing Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Indian government as “exceptionally generous” in providing emergency assistance.
Nepal Praises India’s Flood Relief Assistance
Wagle said India had responded quickly to Nepal’s humanitarian crisis and indicated that substantial assistance would also be available during the reconstruction phase.
He recalled India’s support following the devastating 2015 Nepal earthquake and said New Delhi had again demonstrated its willingness to assist its neighbour during a major disaster.
Prime Minister Modi had earlier spoken with Nepal Prime Minister Balendra Shah and assured him that India was prepared to provide all possible humanitarian assistance.
India Sends 57.6 Tonnes of Relief Material
India has dispatched 57.6 tonnes of relief supplies to Nepal since the floods struck on Wednesday.
An 11-member Indian specialist team comprising medical personnel and tunnel rescue experts has also reached Nepal following a request from Kathmandu. The experts are assisting local authorities as rescue operations focus on people trapped in hydropower facilities and other difficult-to-access locations.
More than 11,000 Nepalese security personnel have been mobilised for search and rescue operations, while the Nepal Army has airlifted around 1,930 people.
Nepal Turns Focus Towards Reconstruction
Wagle said Nepal was managing the disaster in phases, with the immediate priority remaining rescue operations and delivery of essential supplies to isolated communities including Dhunche, Rasuwa and Syaphru Besi.
The next stage will involve temporary shelters, employment-support programmes and early recovery measures before large-scale reconstruction begins.
India has indicated that it is prepared to provide significant assistance during that rebuilding effort.
