External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar virtually handed over 72 health facilities and 12 cultural heritage projects to Nepal under India’s post-2015 earthquake reconstruction programme, reaffirming New Delhi’s development partnership with Kathmandu.

The health facilities were handed over after Dr. Jaishankar’s meeting with visiting Nepalese Foreign Minister Shisir Khanal in New Delhi. The projects form part of India’s reconstruction support to Nepal after the devastating 2015 earthquake.

The handover highlights India’s continued focus on health infrastructure, disaster recovery and community-level development cooperation in Nepal.

India Nepal Heritage Projects

Along with the health facilities, 12 cultural heritage projects were also handed over to Nepal. These projects are aimed at supporting the restoration and preservation of Nepal’s cultural and historical assets damaged during the earthquake.

India has maintained that its development cooperation with Nepal covers several areas, including connectivity, energy, education, health, disaster response and cultural preservation.

UPI Nepal Payment Link Launched

The two sides also jointly launched the linkage between India’s Unified Payments Interface and Nepal’s National Payments Interface to facilitate cross-border personal remittances. This move is expected to improve digital financial connectivity between the two countries.

Both leaders also witnessed the exchange of an MoU between Digital India Bhashini and Kathmandu University for developing a voice-first language translation platform for Nepal.

Dr. Jaishankar said India and Nepal share a special relationship built on strong people-to-people ties, cross-border connectivity, shared culture and close cooperation along their open border.
