India to Become Global Biomanufacturing Hub: Dr. Jitendra Singh
Union Minister of State for Science and Technology (Independent Charge), Dr. Jitendra Singh, announced today that India is on its way to becoming a global biomanufacturing hub driven by science and technology. The minister made this statement while inaugurating the Golden Jubilee celebrations and Milestone Observation Program at the CSIR-National Institute for Interdisciplinary Science and Technology (NIIST) campus in Thiruvananthapuram.
India’s Vision for Global Biomanufacturing
During the event, Dr. Jitendra Singh emphasized India’s need for a global vision in biochemical manufacturing. He called for the development of international strategies that can position India as a leader in biomanufacturing. He highlighted that sustainability and e-waste management are essential pillars of the government’s initiatives in science and technology.
Promoting Innovation and Public-Private Partnerships
The Union Minister reiterated the central government’s focus on fostering innovation and entrepreneurship through startups and incubators. He encouraged CSIR-NIIST to collaborate with the private sector to drive public-private partnerships, urging the institute to bring forward innovations that can benefit the non-scientific community as well.
Inauguration of Key Research Centers
As part of the celebrations, Dr. Singh inaugurated the Centre of Excellence in Performance Chemicals and Sustainable Polymers and laid the foundation stone for the Centre of Excellence in Ayurveda Research. He also released the CSIR-NIIST Golden Jubilee Yearbook and commemorative stamp, further acknowledging the institute’s 50 years of achievement in scientific research.
Exhibition and Technology Transfers
The minister facilitated the exchange of Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) and technology transfers between NIIST and various technological institutions across the country. An exhibition area showcasing NIIST’s milestones and a startup expo were also inaugurated by Dr. Singh, reflecting the government’s commitment to innovation and sustainable development.
In recognition of his contributions, Dr. C. Anandharamakrishnan, Director of CSIR-NIIST, presented a token of appreciation to Dr. Jitendra Singh. Other prominent attendees included Dr. Sanjay Behari, Director of Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute for Medical Sciences and Technology, who served as Guest of Honour.
Planting for a Greener Future
In a nod to sustainability, Dr. Jitendra Singh also participated in the Plant4Mother campaign by planting a sapling on the NIIST campus, further underscoring the government’s commitment to eco-friendly initiatives.
