Canada Spy Report Names India

Canada’s intelligence agency has accused India of foreign interference and espionage activities in its latest public report, even as the same assessment also flagged Khalistani extremism as a national security threat.

Canada Intelligence Report On India

The Canadian Security Intelligence Service reportedly named India among countries accused of engaging in foreign interference and spying activities in Canada.

The report comes at a sensitive time for India-Canada relations, which have seen diplomatic tensions over Khalistani separatism, security concerns and allegations linked to activities on Canadian soil.

India-Canada Diplomatic Tensions

Indian sources have rejected such allegations in the past and maintained that Canada has not provided credible evidence to support its claims. New Delhi has repeatedly accused Ottawa of allowing anti-India separatist networks to operate from Canadian territory.

The issue became a major point of friction after earlier Canadian allegations linked to the killing of Khalistani separatist Hardeep Singh Nijjar. India had denied involvement and downgraded diplomatic engagement after the dispute escalated.

Khalistani Extremism Also Flagged

The Canadian intelligence assessment also reportedly identified Khalistani extremism as a threat to Canada’s national security. This is significant because India has long raised concerns over violent separatist activity, threats to Indian diplomats and attacks on Indian diplomatic missions.

The report has therefore reopened both sides of the debate: Canada’s concerns over alleged foreign interference and India’s concerns over extremist networks operating from Canadian soil.
