The United States has evacuated 22 crew members from a seized Iranian container vessel to Pakistan, with Islamabad saying the crew will be handed over to Iranian authorities as part of a confidence-building measure.
US Evacuates Seized Iranian Ship Crew
The crew members were held aboard the Iranian container ship MV Touska after the vessel was seized by US forces. Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry said the 22 crew members were transferred to Pakistan for repatriation.
The move comes amid heightened maritime tensions linked to the Iran conflict and disruptions around key shipping routes.
Pakistan To Hand Crew To Iran
Pakistan said the evacuated crew members would be handed over to Iranian authorities. Islamabad described the move as a confidence-building step supported by both sides.
The development places Pakistan in a diplomatic role at a sensitive moment, as tensions between the United States and Iran continue over maritime security and regional military activity.
Seized Iranian Vessel To Be Returned
Pakistan also said the Iranian ship would be moved to Pakistani territorial waters before being returned to its original owners after necessary repairs.
The transfer comes as the Strait of Hormuz and surrounding maritime zones remain under pressure due to the wider standoff between Washington and Tehran. Shipping security, crew safety and vessel movement continue to be closely monitored by regional governments.
