India-Australia Ties More Consequential Says PM Anthony Albanese
Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has said India-Australia ties have “never been more consequential” as he prepares to host Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Melbourne next week.
India Australia Relations Gain Momentum
Albanese said he was honoured to welcome Prime Minister Modi to Australia for the Annual Leaders’ Summit, describing the relationship between the two countries as central to peace, stability and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific.
The Australian leader said cooperation between India and Australia in trade, defence, security and technology is delivering benefits for both nations. His remarks came ahead of Modi’s scheduled visit to Melbourne from July 8 to 10.
PM Modi Australia Visit Schedule
Modi’s Australia visit will be the second leg of a three-nation tour. The Prime Minister is scheduled to begin his overseas visit in Indonesia on July 6 before travelling to Australia and then New Zealand on July 11.
The Melbourne summit is expected to focus on expanding strategic cooperation, strengthening economic ties and deepening coordination in the Indo-Pacific region. India and Australia have steadily expanded their partnership in recent years through regular high-level engagement.
Indo-Pacific Partnership In Focus
Australia has described India as a key economic partner, citing its growing global role and expanding market potential. The bilateral relationship is supported by the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and strong people-to-people links, including the large Indian-origin community in Australia.
The two countries are also working together through regional and multilateral platforms, including the Quad. Defence cooperation, critical minerals, clean energy, education, mobility and technology are expected to remain important areas of discussion during the visit.
The summit is likely to underline the growing importance of India-Australia ties amid shifting geopolitical and economic priorities in the Indo-Pacific.
