CBSE Language Rule Relief For Students
CBSE’s clarification on its revised three-language policy has brought relief to many students, but parents remain upset over the last-minute uncertainty caused by the language rule changes. The clarification allows students already in Classes 7, 8 and 9 to continue their existing foreign language combinations till Class 10.
CBSE Language Policy Clarification
Under the revised position, students currently in Classes 7 to 9 who have already opted for foreign languages will not be forced to change their subject combination midway. The requirement of studying at least two Indian languages under the three-language formula will apply prospectively from Class 6.
This means students who had chosen two foreign languages can continue with the same combination until their Class 10 board examination. The move has eased concerns among families who feared sudden academic disruption.
Parents Upset Over Last-Minute Changes
Despite the relief, many parents have expressed frustration over the confusion caused by the earlier communication. They said the late clarification created unnecessary anxiety for students, especially those who had already invested years in learning a particular foreign language.
Parents also raised concerns over the preparedness of schools, availability of trained teachers and textbooks, and the impact of sudden language changes on students entering higher classes.
Three-Language Formula In CBSE Schools
The three-language policy is aligned with the National Education Policy and the National Curriculum Framework, which promote multilingual learning and greater emphasis on Indian languages. CBSE had earlier said that students in Classes 9 and 10 would study three languages, with at least two being Indian languages.
The latest clarification is not a rollback of the policy, but a transitional relief for existing students. Schools are now expected to wait for formal instructions before making further timetable or subject changes.
