US Carries Out Fresh Strikes In Iran
The United States has carried out fresh military strikes in Iran, targeting a site that officials said posed a threat to American forces and commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz. US forces also intercepted and shot down multiple Iranian drones in the area.
US Strikes Iranian Military Site
A US official said the overnight operation targeted an Iranian military site believed to be a threat to US personnel and maritime traffic. The official spoke on condition of anonymity, and further operational details were not immediately released.
The latest strikes come amid a wider conflict that began on February 28 after US and Israeli attacks on Iran. The war has killed thousands and sharply pushed up global energy prices, especially due to concerns over the security of shipping routes in the Gulf region.
Strait Of Hormuz Security Concerns Rise
The Strait of Hormuz remains central to global oil and gas movement, making any military activity near the waterway a major international concern. US officials said Iranian drones were also intercepted after being assessed as a threat to forces and commercial maritime movement.
Washington has repeatedly said its actions are aimed at protecting its forces and keeping shipping lanes open. Iran, however, has accused the US of violating a fragile ceasefire through earlier defensive strikes.
Trump Rejects Iran-Oman Hormuz Claim
US President Donald Trump dismissed an Iranian state media report claiming that Iran and Oman would jointly manage shipping through the Strait of Hormuz as part of a peace arrangement. Trump said the waterway would remain open.
The fresh strikes came as negotiations continued to end the three-month-old war, even as both sides traded claims over ceasefire violations and maritime security threats.
