Telegram Restricted Before NEET UG Re-Exam
The Centre has temporarily restricted access to Telegram in India ahead of the NEET-UG 2026 re-examination, following a request from the National Testing Agency to prevent paper leak claims, cheating rackets and exam-related misinformation.
Telegram restricted ahead of NEET UG re-exam
The messaging app has been restricted until June 22, a day after the NEET-UG re-examination scheduled for June 21. The decision was taken after concerns that Telegram channels were being used to circulate fake question papers, misleading claims and content aimed at exploiting anxious candidates.
The National Testing Agency welcomed the action and said the move was necessary to protect the integrity of the medical entrance examination. The agency has urged students to rely only on official communication and not fall for unverified social media claims.
NTA request leads to Telegram action
The restriction was imposed after the NTA approached the government, citing misuse of the platform ahead of the re-test. Authorities were reportedly concerned about organised groups using Telegram to spread alleged paper leak material and deceive students.
Officials have said the measure is preventive and aimed at stopping attempts to disrupt the examination process. It does not confirm that the NEET-UG re-exam paper has been leaked.
NEET UG 2026 security measures
The government has stepped up digital monitoring and coordination with cyber agencies before the re-examination. Social media platforms and messaging services are being watched for fake paper leak posts, fraud attempts and coordinated misinformation.
The NEET-UG re-exam is being held after earlier concerns over exam irregularities. Authorities are under pressure to ensure transparency, prevent malpractice and restore confidence among students and parents.
