DMK Attacks Rahul Gandhi Over Alliance Row
The DMK has launched a sharp attack on Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, accusing him of weakening opposition unity after the Congress ended its alliance with the DMK in Tamil Nadu and joined the TVK-led coalition government.
DMK attacks Rahul Gandhi over opposition unity
The DMK’s IT wing and party mouthpiece criticised Rahul Gandhi over the Congress party’s political decisions in Tamil Nadu and within the INDIA bloc. The party accused him of speaking about unity while taking actions that, according to the DMK, damaged opposition coordination.
The criticism comes after Congress left the DMK-led alliance in Tamil Nadu following the 2026 Assembly elections. Congress had contested the polls as part of the DMK alliance but later joined the government led by actor-politician Vijay’s TVK.
Congress DMK alliance tension in Tamil Nadu
The DMK said Congress had benefited from its alliance during the elections but changed sides after the results. The party’s criticism focused on what it described as a lack of political consistency and reliability from the Congress leadership.
The issue has added to tensions between the two parties in Tamil Nadu, where the DMK is now part of the opposition while Congress is aligned with the ruling coalition. The DMK has questioned whether Congress can be trusted by regional allies after the shift.
INDIA bloc faces fresh strain
The controversy also reflects wider strain within the INDIA bloc. DMK’s party mouthpiece accused Rahul Gandhi of creating friction with alliance partners in several states, including Kerala, where Congress and the Left have been rivals.
Congress has not issued a detailed official response to the criticism. Party sources have maintained that its decision in Tamil Nadu was based on the people’s mandate. The row highlights the challenges facing opposition parties as they attempt to maintain national unity while competing against each other in state politics.
