PM Modi Says India Stands With UAE
Prime Minister Narendra Modi said India stands “shoulder-to-shoulder” with the United Arab Emirates as he met UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan in Abu Dhabi during the first leg of his six-day foreign visit.
PM Modi UAE Visit Focuses On Regional Security
Modi strongly condemned recent attacks on the UAE and said targeting the country was unacceptable. During delegation-level talks, he said the impact of the West Asia conflict was being felt globally and stressed that India continued to support dialogue and diplomacy.
He also said keeping the Strait of Hormuz free, open and safe was a top priority, adding that international laws must be respected to ensure peace and stability in the region.
India UAE Strategic Defence Pact Signed
India and the UAE signed a framework agreement for a strategic defence partnership, marking a major step in deepening security cooperation between the two countries.
The two sides also signed agreements covering strategic petroleum reserves, liquefied petroleum gas supplies and the development of a ship repair cluster at Vadinar on India’s western coast. The UAE also announced investment commitments worth $5 billion in Indian infrastructure, RBL Bank and Samman Capital.
Modi Receives Ceremonial Welcome In Abu Dhabi
Modi was received by Sheikh Mohamed at the Presidential Airport and was accorded a ceremonial welcome. UAE F-16 fighter jets also escorted his aircraft as it entered Emirati airspace.
Calling the UAE his “second home,” Modi said the gesture reflected the warmth of India-UAE ties. He said the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two nations had gained greater importance in the current global situation.
