Mojtaba Khamenei To Skip Father’s Funeral
Mojtaba Khamenei is reportedly expected to skip the funeral ceremonies of his father, former Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, due to heightened security concerns and fears of a possible attack.
Mojtaba Khamenei To Skip Funeral
Iranian officials have reportedly said Mojtaba Khamenei will not appear in public during the multi-day funeral events. The decision has been described as a security measure amid concerns that his presence could expose him to surveillance or assassination attempts.
Mojtaba, who succeeded his father as Iran’s Supreme Leader, has remained away from public view since the strikes that killed Ali Khamenei earlier this year. His absence from the funeral is expected to draw attention because of the political significance of the ceremonies.
Khamenei Funeral Security Tightened
Ali Khamenei’s funeral ceremonies are scheduled to begin in Tehran on July 4 and continue until July 9, with events expected across Tehran, Qom and Mashhad. Large crowds, religious leaders and foreign delegations are expected to attend.
Iran has already increased security arrangements ahead of the funeral. Military and air defence units have been placed on alert, while authorities are preparing for crowd control and protection of visiting dignitaries.
Iran Faces Security Concerns
The funeral comes during a highly sensitive period for Iran following months of conflict and heightened tensions with the United States and Israel. Officials are concerned that any high-profile public appearance by Mojtaba Khamenei could create a security risk.
The funeral is being treated as a major state event and a symbolic show of unity, even as Iran faces political uncertainty and regional pressure after the death of its long-serving former Supreme Leader.
