India Protests Pakistan Navy Ship Collision
India has lodged a formal protest with Pakistan after a Pakistani naval vessel collided with an Indian Navy warship in international waters in the North Arabian Sea. New Delhi described the Pakistani vessel’s conduct as “unacceptable and unprofessional” and said the incident breached a bilateral military agreement.
Pakistani Naval Ship Collides With Indian Warship
The incident occurred on the evening of September 15 while the Indian Navy vessel was conducting a routine surveillance mission in the North Arabian Sea.
Indian officials said the Pakistani naval ship approached the Indian warship at high speed and manoeuvred in what they described as an unsafe and unprofessional manner, resulting in a collision. No major damage was reported.
India has not publicly identified the two vessels involved in the incident.
India Summons Pakistan’s Top Diplomat
The Ministry of External Affairs summoned Pakistan’s Charge d’Affaires in New Delhi and lodged a strong diplomatic protest.
India said the Pakistani vessel’s conduct was in direct contravention of Article 10 of the 1991 Agreement on Advance Notice on Military Exercises, Manoeuvres and Troops Movements.
Pakistan’s diplomat was asked to convey to authorities in Islamabad that military units must exercise appropriate caution and comply with existing bilateral arrangements to prevent similar incidents.
India Also Lodges Protest in Islamabad
India has instructed its Charge d’Affaires in Islamabad to raise the matter separately with Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry.
The episode recalls previous encounters between the two navies. In 2011, Indian and Pakistani warships were involved in another maritime confrontation during the MV Suez operation, leading both governments to exchange protests over navigational conduct.
The latest collision adds another point of tension to the sensitive military relationship between India and Pakistan.
