Netanyahu Says Israel Will Stay In Security Zones

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has said Israeli forces will remain in security zones in Gaza, Lebanon and Syria for as long as needed, even as questions grow over Israel’s position on a US-backed regional ceasefire framework.

Netanyahu said Israel had established what he described as deep security zones around the country, including in Gaza, Lebanon and Syria. He said Israeli forces would remain in these areas to protect national security.

His remarks came amid growing debate over whether Israel would align with a wider regional understanding linked to the United States and Iran. The proposed framework is aimed at reducing tensions after months of conflict across the region.

Israel position on US Iran deal

The US-backed understanding has raised questions inside Israel because it includes efforts to halt fighting across multiple fronts. Israeli officials have indicated that they do not want any agreement to limit Israel’s ability to act militarily against threats.

Netanyahu’s comments suggest Israel will continue to prioritise military control in areas it considers strategically important. He said the security zones were necessary to prevent attacks and maintain pressure on armed groups operating near Israel’s borders.

Gaza Lebanon Syria conflict update

Israel’s continued presence in Gaza, southern Lebanon and parts of Syria remains a major point of tension in the region. Critics say the policy could complicate ceasefire efforts and prolong instability.

The remarks are likely to draw strong reactions from Palestinians, Lebanon and Syria, who view Israeli military control as occupation. The issue may also become a challenge for diplomatic efforts seeking a broader settlement in West Asia.
