Mamata Banerjee Says She Will Not Resign
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has repeated that she will not resign after the Trinamool Congress’ defeat in the Assembly election, deepening the political standoff in the state.
Mamata Banerjee Refuses To Resign
Mamata Banerjee told newly elected TMC MLAs and senior party leaders that she would not step down from the Chief Minister’s post. She reportedly said, “Let them dismiss me,” while rejecting demands for her resignation after the election loss.
The TMC chief has described the election outcome as an “atrocity” and alleged that the mandate did not reflect the real will of the people.
TMC Plans Protest Over Bengal Results
Banerjee has asked newly elected TMC MLAs to wear black as a mark of protest. The party is expected to use the symbolism to register its opposition to the election outcome and the political developments that followed.
The remarks came during a meeting at her Kalighat residence in Kolkata, where senior TMC leaders discussed the party’s next steps after the setback.
Bengal Political Standoff Deepens
The BJP has criticised Banerjee’s refusal to resign, calling it an attack on the democratic mandate. The party has argued that the election result clearly showed the people’s decision and that the transfer of power should take place without delay.
The situation has added to political tension in West Bengal after the Assembly results. With Banerjee refusing to resign and the BJP pressing for government formation, the state is facing a serious constitutional and political confrontation.
