Iran-Linked Hackers Leak US Troop Details

An Iran-linked hacking group has released personal details of more than 2,000 US military personnel, raising fresh cybersecurity concerns as tensions between Washington and Tehran continue to escalate.

Iran-Linked Hackers Target US Troops

The Handala Hack Team reportedly published the names and personal details of 2,379 US Marines stationed in the Persian Gulf region. The group claimed the leak was meant to show its surveillance capabilities and warned that more disclosures could follow.

The hackers allegedly shared the information on Telegram and claimed they had access to wider data linked to American military personnel in the region.

Pentagon Opens Cyberattack Probe

US officials have said the Pentagon has launched an investigation into the claims. Initial findings reportedly suggest that at least some of the names released belong to serving military members.

The group also claimed it had deeper information, including family details, home addresses, base locations, daily routines and troop movements. US authorities are now assessing the scale of the breach and whether personnel from other military branches were also targeted.

Cyber Threats Rise Amid Iran Tensions

The incident comes at a time of heightened US-Iran tensions, with cyber operations increasingly becoming part of wider geopolitical pressure campaigns. The hacking group also reportedly sent threatening messages to US personnel through WhatsApp.

The same group recently claimed to have targeted FBI Director Kash Patel’s personal inbox, though the full extent and authenticity of that breach remain under investigation.

The latest leak has intensified concerns over the safety of deployed troops, digital surveillance risks and the growing use of cyberattacks in modern conflicts.
