India Reels Under Severe Heatwave

India is facing an intense heatwave, with several cities recording extreme temperatures above 44°C as weather agencies warned of dangerous conditions across central, western and northern parts of the country.

India Heatwave Pushes Temperatures Above 45°C

Several Indian cities featured among the world’s hottest locations as temperatures surged sharply in late April. Parts of Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Gujarat reported severe heat, with maximum temperatures crossing 45°C in some areas.

Akola in Maharashtra recorded one of the highest temperatures in the country at around 46.9°C, while Amravati, Wardha, Yavatmal and Nagpur also reported extreme heat conditions.

IMD Issues Heatwave Alerts Across States

The India Meteorological Department issued heatwave and warm night alerts for several regions as daytime temperatures stayed far above normal. Vidarbha, western Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Rajasthan and parts of north India remained under close watch.

Ahmedabad recorded one of its hottest April days, while Indore also touched 43°C amid high night temperatures. Officials warned that warm nights can increase health risks because the body gets little time to recover from daytime heat stress.

Heatwave Raises Health And Safety Concerns

The severe heat has raised concerns for outdoor workers, children, elderly people and those with existing medical conditions. Authorities have advised people to avoid direct sun exposure, stay hydrated and limit strenuous outdoor activity during peak afternoon hours.

Weather experts say the heatwave may continue in several areas before possible relief from changing wind patterns and local rainfall in some regions. However, the larger trend of recurring early-season heatwaves remains a growing concern for public health and urban planning.
