Census 2027 to Ask 40 Questions
The Centre has notified 40 questions for the population enumeration phase of Census 2027, covering caste, education, employment, migration, COVID-19 vaccination, bank accounts and identification documents. The questionnaire will be used by census officials to collect detailed demographic and socio-economic information across India.
Census 2027 to Collect Caste Details
The questionnaire will record each person’s name, relationship with the head of household, sex, date of birth, age, marital status, nationality and religion.
Significantly, information on Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe or caste will also be collected, making caste enumeration a major component of Census 2027.
Other questions cover disability, mother tongue, additional languages known and details relating to parents.
Aadhaar and COVID Vaccination Details Included
Census officials will also seek information on the availability of identification documents and identifiers, including Aadhaar, voter ID, Indian passport, driving licence and mobile numbers.
The questionnaire includes questions on the place where an individual received a COVID-19 vaccination and the number of bank accounts held.
Educational information will cover literacy, digital literacy, attendance at educational institutions and the highest qualification attained.
Census to Track Employment and Migration
The enumeration will collect detailed employment information, including occupation, industry, type of work and whether an individual is seeking or available for employment.
Migration-related questions will cover birthplace, previous residence, reasons for migration and duration of residence at the current location.
The 40-question Household Schedule has been formally notified under the Census Act, 1948, establishing the information framework for the population enumeration phase.
