Fire At Rajasthan HPCL Refinery Delays Launch

A fire broke out at the HPCL Rajasthan refinery site in Pachpadra, Balotra, on Monday, a day before Prime Minister Narendra Modi was scheduled to inaugurate the refinery-cum-petrochemical complex. The incident occurred near the crude distillation unit area, prompting an immediate emergency response and leading to the postponement of the launch event. No casualties were reported.

The blaze erupted inside the refinery premises on April 20 and was brought under control after firefighting teams were rushed to the site. Early reports indicated that the fire broke out in the vicinity of the crude distillation unit, one of the key processing sections of the plant. Authorities said the situation was contained, but the incident raised immediate concerns because of the timing and the scale of the project.

PM Modi Refinery Inauguration Postponed After Incident

Following the fire, the scheduled dedication of the refinery by Prime Minister Modi on April 21 was postponed. Officials said a fresh date for the inauguration would be announced later. The postponement came as security and event preparations had already been completed for the high-profile launch of the major energy project in Rajasthan.

Rajasthan Refinery Project Under Safety Scanner

An investigation has been launched to determine the cause of the fire and identify any corrective measures needed before the facility moves ahead. Preliminary indications suggested a hydrocarbon leak may have been involved, though the final cause is yet to be confirmed. The Pachpadra refinery is one of Rajasthan’s biggest industrial projects and is expected to play a major role in fuel production, petrochemicals and regional economic activity once fully operational.
