Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah Likely To Resign Today
Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah is likely to resign on Thursday after informing ministers about his decision during a breakfast meeting, setting the stage for Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar to take over the top post.
Siddaramaiah Resignation Likely At 3.30 PM
Karnataka Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy said Siddaramaiah is expected to submit his resignation to Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot by around 3.30 p.m. He said the Chief Minister thanked ministers for their cooperation during the meeting.
The development follows weeks of speculation over a leadership change in Karnataka and internal discussions within the Congress on a possible power-sharing arrangement.
DK Shivakumar Set To Become Karnataka CM
Several reports and state ministers indicated that D.K. Shivakumar is likely to become the next Chief Minister of Karnataka. Minister H.K. Patil also said Siddaramaiah would resign and Shivakumar would take over.
Shivakumar, who has served as Deputy Chief Minister since Congress returned to power in 2023, has long been seen as a strong claimant for the chief ministerial post.
Congress Faces Leadership Transition
The expected resignation marks a major political shift in Karnataka. Siddaramaiah has served as Chief Minister across two terms and remains one of the Congress party’s most influential mass leaders in the state.
The formal transition will depend on the resignation process, the Governor’s response and the Congress Legislature Party’s next steps.
