Centre Releases ₹5858 Crore for Flood Relief in 14 States

In a major relief measure, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has released ₹5858.60 crore to 14 states severely impacted by floods and landslides during the southwest monsoon. The financial assistance comes as a central share from the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) and as an advance from the National Disaster Response Fund (NDRF).

Fund Allocation to Flood-Affected States

The allocated funds include ₹1492 crore for Maharashtra, ₹1036 crore for Andhra Pradesh, ₹716 crore for Assam, ₹655.60 crore for Bihar, ₹600 crore for Gujarat, ₹189.20 crore for Himachal Pradesh, ₹145.60 crore for Kerala, ₹50 crore for Manipur, ₹21.60 crore for Mizoram, ₹19.20 crore for Nagaland, ₹23.60 crore for Sikkim, ₹416.80 crore for Telangana, ₹25 crore for Tripura, and ₹468 crore for West Bengal. These states experienced extensive damage due to extremely heavy rainfall, floods, and landslides during this year’s monsoon season.

Central Teams Assess Flood Damage in Affected States

Inter-Ministerial Central Teams (IMCTs) were dispatched to the affected states, including Assam, Mizoram, Kerala, Tripura, Nagaland, Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Manipur, to evaluate the extent of the damage and provide necessary support. IMCTs will also be sent shortly to Bihar and West Bengal to conduct an on-the-spot assessment of recent flood-related damages.

Additional Financial Aid Under Consideration

After receiving the assessment reports from IMCTs, the government will consider granting additional financial assistance from NDRF, following established protocols. Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and guidance of Union Home Minister Amit Shah, over ₹14,958 crore has already been disbursed to 21 states this year for disaster relief and mitigation. This includes ₹9044.80 crore from SDRF, ₹4528.66 crore from NDRF, and ₹1385.45 crore from the State Disaster Mitigation Fund (SDMF).

Central Government’s Comprehensive Support

In addition to financial assistance, the Central Government has extended logistical support by deploying National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams, Army units, and Air Force resources to assist the flood-affected states in rescue and rehabilitation efforts. These timely interventions are aimed at mitigating the hardships faced by citizens and restoring normalcy in the affected regions.
