Assam Rifles Jawan Killed in Arunachal Attack
An Assam Rifles personnel was killed and four others were injured after suspected militants opened fire on a patrol team near the India-Myanmar border in Arunachal Pradesh’s Changlang district on Tuesday morning.
Assam Rifles Patrol Attacked in Changlang
The attack occurred at around 6.30 am near Nampong Nallah under Nampong Circle when personnel from the 21 Assam Rifles were patrolling an area close to ongoing border fencing work.
The deceased personnel was identified as 42-year-old Havildar Jankhokai Kuki. Four other Assam Rifles personnel sustained injuries in the firing and were taken for medical treatment.
Security forces launched operations in the surrounding area following the attack to locate those responsible and secure the border region.
Suspected Militants Open Fire Near Myanmar Border
Preliminary information indicated that militants may have ambushed the patrol team while it was operating near the international border.
Some initial reports have pointed to possible involvement of cadres belonging to the NSCN-K-YA, also known as the Yung Aung faction. However, authorities have not officially confirmed the identity of the attackers, and the circumstances surrounding the incident remain under investigation.
Security Tightened Along India-Myanmar Border
The attack comes amid heightened security along parts of the India-Myanmar border, where fencing and surveillance infrastructure are being expanded.
Changlang and neighbouring districts have experienced sporadic militant activity because of their proximity to Myanmar and the movement of armed groups across the difficult border terrain.
Security forces have intensified search operations following Tuesday’s attack, while further details regarding the militants involved are awaited.
