Census 2027 Door-To-Door Survey Begins

India’s Census 2027 field operations have begun in Rajasthan, Meghalaya, Maharashtra, Jharkhand and the Municipal Corporation of Delhi area, marking a major step in the country’s delayed national population count.

Census 2027 Field Operations Begin

The current phase covers the Houselisting and Housing Census, which records details about houses, household facilities and living conditions. Enumerators will visit homes to collect information that will form the base for the full population count.

The exercise is being conducted in a phased manner across different states and Union Territories. It is part of India’s first full Census after 2011, as the 2021 Census was delayed.

Digital Census And Self-Enumeration

Census 2027 is being carried out with a strong digital push alongside the traditional door-to-door survey. Citizens in selected areas have been given the option to complete self-enumeration online before field visits.

According to officials, over 1.44 crore households have already completed digital self-enumeration. The online facility has also been expanded to more regions, including Gujarat, Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh and Puducherry, with submissions open till May 31.

Census Data And Privacy

The government has said all information collected during the Census will remain confidential and will be used only for official statistical purposes. Enumerators are expected to collect housing and household details through authorised systems.

The Census data will play a key role in planning welfare schemes, infrastructure, housing, health services and development programmes. The population enumeration phase is expected to follow later as part of the full Census 2027 process.
