CBSE Declares Class 10 Second Board Exam Results, Overall Pass Rate Reaches 96.78%

The Central Board of Secondary Education has declared the results of the Class 10 Second Board Examination for 2026, marking the completion of the first year of its two-examination system.

With the results of the main and second examinations combined, the overall Class 10 pass percentage for the academic year has increased to 96.78%. The first examination had recorded a pass rate of 93.70%.

Nearly 60% Improve Their Performance

The second examination was introduced to give students an additional opportunity to improve their marks or clear subjects they could not pass in the main examination.

Nearly 60% of the candidates who appeared for the second examination improved their performance. Students are allowed to retain the better of the two scores obtained in each subject, ensuring that appearing for the improvement examination does not lower their final result.

More Than Five Lakh Students Appeared

More than five lakh students appeared for the optional second examination, which was conducted in May. The assessment covered the full syllabus and followed the same academic standards as the main board examination.

Students can access their results and digital marksheets through the official CBSE results portals and DigiLocker. They will need details such as their roll number, school number and admit card identification number to view their scores.

Two-Exam System Offers Additional Opportunity

The two-board examination system is intended to reduce the pressure associated with a single high-stakes examination and provide students with another chance to improve their academic performance during the same year.

The second examination is optional for students seeking better marks but also serves as an opportunity for those who need to clear particular subjects before receiving their final pass certificate.
