Nepal Flood Toll Hits 626, Nearly 2,000 Missing
The death toll from Nepal’s devastating flash floods has risen to 626, with nearly 2,000 people still reported missing as search and rescue operations entered their fourth day on Saturday. Authorities said bodies have now been recovered from eight districts across central Nepal.

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority said Chitwan has recorded the highest number of fatalities, with 233 bodies recovered.
Nawalparasi East has reported 158 deaths, followed by Nuwakot with 51 and Gorkha with 48. Another 47 bodies have been recovered in Nawalparasi West, 45 in Dhading, 31 in Tanahun and 13 in Rasuwa.
The casualty figures remain provisional as rescue teams continue searching flood-hit settlements and inaccessible areas.
Nearly 2,000 People Still Missing in Nepal
Authorities said close to 2,000 people remain unaccounted for following Wednesday’s disaster, raising fears that the death toll could climb significantly.
Search teams are continuing operations across affected districts despite damaged roads, destroyed bridges, unstable terrain and disrupted communication networks.
Nearly 2,500 stranded people have been evacuated since rescue operations began, while emergency workers continue delivering food, medical assistance and other relief supplies to isolated communities.
Fresh Flood Risk Complicates Rescue Operations
The floods caused widespread destruction across settlements, transport networks and hydropower infrastructure after sweeping through Rasuwa and downstream areas.
Authorities have also warned of the possibility of secondary flooding because of changing water levels and unstable terrain near the original disaster zone.
The continuing risk has complicated search operations at a time when thousands of families are still waiting for information about missing relatives.
