Bangladesh Adviser Stopped At Delhi Airport

Bangladesh has conveyed disappointment to India after Zahed Ur Rahman, an adviser to Bangladesh Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, was stopped at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport before being cleared to enter the country. Rahman later chose to return to Dhaka instead of continuing his visit.

Bangladesh Adviser Stopped At Delhi Airport

Zahed Ur Rahman was reportedly stopped by Indian immigration authorities after arriving in New Delhi on Sunday evening. He had travelled to India to attend a meeting of the Indian Ocean Rim Association scheduled for June 15 and 16.

According to reports, he was held for more than two hours before clearance was eventually granted following official intervention. However, Rahman decided not to enter India and returned to Dhaka via Colombo.

Dhaka Summons Indian Diplomat

Bangladesh summoned Indian Deputy High Commissioner Pawan Badhe over the incident and conveyed what it described as deep disappointment. Bangladesh Foreign Minister Khalilur Rahman called the episode unexpected and unfortunate.

The incident has drawn diplomatic attention because Rahman is a senior adviser in the new Bangladesh administration led by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman. It is the first such reported airport incident involving an official linked to the BNP-led government since it came to power earlier this year.

India-Bangladesh Ties Under Watch

Reports said Rahman had travelled on a regular passport with a SAARC sticker, and his name may have appeared during security-related checks. Indian authorities have not publicly commented on the matter.

The episode comes at a sensitive time for India-Bangladesh relations, with both sides adjusting to a new political phase in Dhaka. While Rahman was eventually cleared to enter India, his decision to return home has made the incident diplomatically significant.
