Anbumani Attacks Stalin Over Women’s Bill

PMK president Anbumani Ramadoss has criticised Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin over the defeat of the Constitution (131st Amendment) Bill, 2026, saying the DMK’s stand had worked against women’s political representation. His remarks came amid the growing political battle over the failed bill, which was linked to introducing 33% reservation for women in Parliament and State Assemblies from the 2029 elections.

Anbumani Ramadoss On Constitution Amendment Bill

Anbumani alleged that the DMK government opposed a measure that could have increased women’s participation in legislatures. He argued that if the proposal had gone through, Tamil Nadu could have seen a rise in Lok Sabha representation, including more seats reserved for women. He framed Stalin’s opposition as a political move that had harmed women’s interests.

Stalin Delimitation Opposition Triggers Row

The controversy is centred on the link between women’s reservation and delimitation. Stalin and the DMK have maintained that their objection was not to women’s reservation itself, but to the way it was tied to constituency redrawing and parliamentary expansion. The party has argued that such a move could reduce the relative influence of southern States in national politics.

Tamil Nadu Political Clash Over Women’s Reservation

Anbumani’s attack adds to the widening political confrontation in Tamil Nadu over the defeated constitutional amendment. While the DMK has celebrated the bill’s failure as a victory against what it calls an unfair delimitation plan, opponents such as the PMK have used the issue to accuse Stalin of denying greater political space to women. The issue is now becoming a major talking point in the State’s political campaign.
