PMK president Anbumani Ramadoss has criticised Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin over the defeat of the Constitution (131st Amendment) Bill, 2026, saying the DMK’s stand had worked against women’s political representation. His remarks came amid the growing political battle over the failed bill, which was linked to introducing 33% reservation for women in Parliament and State Assemblies from the 2029 elections. He argued that if the proposal had gone through, Tamil Nadu could have seen a rise in Lok Sabha representation, including more seats reserved for women. Stalin and the DMK have maintained that their objection was not to women’s reservation itself, but to the way it was tied to constituency redrawing and parliamentary expansion. The party has argued that such a move could reduce the relative influence of southern States in national politics.
