Russian Strikes Hit Kyiv After Brief Attack Pause
Russia launched a large-scale drone and missile attack on Kyiv early Tuesday, killing at least three people and injuring 16, ending a brief pause in strikes on the Ukrainian capital during a visit by US peace envoys.
Russian Missile and Drone Strikes Hit Kyiv
The overnight assault involved ballistic and cruise missiles as well as drones, triggering fires and damaging residential buildings across several districts of Kyiv.
Authorities reported damage to high-rise apartment blocks, a dormitory, school, medical facility and commercial warehouses. Emergency crews were deployed across the capital as rescue and firefighting operations continued.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy described the barrage as a complex attack involving several types of missiles and jet-powered drones.
Kyiv Attack Ends Pause During US Peace Mission
The strikes resumed shortly after US envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner departed Kyiv following talks aimed at reviving negotiations to end the Russia-Ukraine war.
Russia had temporarily halted attacks on the Ukrainian capital during the diplomatic visit. The US representatives had previously travelled to Moscow for talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin before meeting Zelenskyy in Kyiv.
No breakthrough was announced, although both sides indicated that further diplomatic discussions remained possible.
Ukraine Calls for More Air Defence Support
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha condemned the renewed attack and called for stronger international pressure on Moscow as well as additional air-defence systems.
The Russian assault extended beyond Kyiv, with attacks reported across several Ukrainian regions. Moscow said its forces targeted military, logistics and weapons-related facilities.
Ukraine has meanwhile continued long-range drone strikes against Russian and Russian-controlled territory, underscoring the continuing escalation despite renewed diplomatic efforts.
