5.0 Magnitude Earthquake Jolts Himachal’s Chamba

A moderate earthquake measuring 5.0 on the Richter scale jolted Chamba district in Himachal Pradesh on Friday night, with tremors also felt in nearby districts and parts of Shimla. No immediate casualties or major damage were reported.

Chamba Earthquake Reported On Friday Night

The earthquake struck at around 10:04 pm, triggering concern among residents in Chamba and surrounding areas. The tremors were strong enough to be felt across nearby districts, while mild shaking was also reported from the state capital, Shimla.

Authorities were monitoring the situation after the tremor, but preliminary reports did not indicate any major structural damage.

Himachal Pradesh Tremors Felt In Nearby Areas

The epicentre of the earthquake was located in Chamba district at latitude 32.289°N and longitude 76.434°E. The quake occurred at a shallow depth of around 5 kilometres, which can make tremors more noticeable in nearby locations.

Chamba and adjoining regions fall in a seismically sensitive Himalayan zone, where earthquakes are not uncommon due to ongoing tectonic activity.

No Casualties Or Major Damage Reported

There were no immediate reports of injuries, casualties or large-scale damage following the earthquake. Local authorities are expected to assess the affected areas and respond if any damage reports emerge.

Residents in earthquake-prone areas are advised to remain alert, avoid panic and follow official safety advisories during aftershocks or further tremors.
