Sonam Wangchuk Warns Of 42-Day Fast Over CJP Arrests
Climate activist Sonam Wangchuk has said he will begin a 42-day hunger strike if Cockroach Janta Party founder Abhijeet Dipke or other members of the movement are arrested ahead of their planned protest at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar.
Sonam Wangchuk Backs CJP Protest
Wangchuk said he would travel from Ladakh to Delhi to join the June 6 protest. In a video message, he said the proposed fast would begin if Dipke or other protesters were arrested before the demonstration.
The protest is being organised by the Cockroach Janta Party, a youth-led movement that began as a satirical online campaign and has since focused on issues such as examination controversies, unemployment and political accountability.
CJP Seeks Dharmendra Pradhan’s Resignation
The planned protest is linked to demands for Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan’s resignation over alleged irregularities in examinations including NEET-UG, CUET, CBSE and SSC GD.
Dipke has said he plans to visit Parliament Street Police Station after landing in Delhi to seek permission for a peaceful protest at Jantar Mantar.
Wangchuk Appeals For Peaceful Demonstration
Wangchuk urged supporters to keep the protest peaceful and avoid carrying sticks, stones or any object that could provoke violence. He asked participants to bring only water bottles, mobile phones and flowers.
He also asked protesters to remain alert against mischief-makers and record any attempt to create disorder. Wangchuk said violence or provocation could harm what he described as a youth-led movement.
