Siddaramaiah Urged To Enter National Politics

Siddaramaiah has again been urged by the Congress leadership to consider a larger role in national politics after Karnataka’s leadership transition cleared the way for D.K. Shivakumar to take over as Chief Minister.

Siddaramaiah National Politics Role

Congress leaders have reportedly renewed their appeal to Siddaramaiah to move beyond State politics and contribute to the party’s national strategy. The push comes after months of speculation over the Karnataka leadership change and the eventual decision to elevate Shivakumar as the next Chief Minister.

Siddaramaiah, however, has maintained that he is not interested in national politics and prefers to remain active in Karnataka. He had earlier declined the possibility of moving to the Rajya Sabha, signalling that his political focus remains within the State.

Karnataka Congress Leadership Change

The Congress Legislature Party in Karnataka elected D.K. Shivakumar as its new leader on Saturday. He is expected to take oath as Karnataka Chief Minister on June 3, marking a major leadership transition in the State.

The development follows Siddaramaiah’s resignation and the Congress high command’s effort to ensure a smooth transfer of power. Party leaders have projected the move as an internal consensus aimed at strengthening the government and preparing the organisation for future elections.

Congress Eyes Siddaramaiah’s Experience

The Congress leadership is believed to see Siddaramaiah’s experience, mass appeal and administrative record as valuable for the party at the national level. His long political career, strong backward class support base and governance experience make him an important figure for the party beyond Karnataka.

For now, Siddaramaiah’s position remains clear. While the Congress wants him to play a bigger role nationally, he appears inclined to continue shaping Karnataka politics even after stepping down as Chief Minister.
