US-Iran Strikes Threaten Fragile Ceasefire
The United States and Iran exchanged fresh military action on Saturday, raising new concerns over a fragile ceasefire in the Middle East. The latest escalation involved Iranian drones, US strikes on radar sites, and air raid alerts in Gulf countries.
US Strikes Iranian Radar Sites
The US military said it shot down four Iranian drones that were moving toward the Strait of Hormuz. It later struck coastal surveillance radar sites, saying the action was taken to prevent further threats to regional maritime traffic.
The Strait of Hormuz remains a critical route for global oil and natural gas shipments, and any disruption in the area could have wider consequences for energy markets.
Iran Targets US Bases In Gulf
Iran’s Revolutionary Guards later said they targeted enemy bases in the Gulf after US strikes on Sirik and Qeshm Island. Kuwait and Bahrain issued air raid alerts as tensions spread across the region.
US Central Command said Iran fired seven ballistic missiles toward Kuwait and Bahrain. According to the US military, six missiles were intercepted and one did not reach its target. It also said there were no reports of harm to US personnel.
Middle East Ceasefire Faces New Pressure
The latest exchange has put more pressure on efforts to extend the ceasefire and restart talks over Iran’s nuclear programme. US and Iranian negotiators have reportedly been working on a possible 60-day extension, but continued military action has complicated diplomatic efforts.
President Donald Trump said the Iran situation was moving forward, while also acknowledging that Tehran still retained missile and drone capacity.
